The City of Downey is proud to announce the participation of the Columbia Memorial Space Center in the Blue Star Museum program. This program will allow for free admission to active duty military personnel and their families between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Over 900 museums across the country participate every year and now Downey’s Space Center is excited to take part in this special program. “This is a great way of recognizing and honoring our military personnel and their families for their dedicated service. They do so much for our country and this is just a small token of our appreciation,” commented Mayor Luis Marquez.
This year the Blue Star Museums program will begin on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011 and extend through Labor Day, September 15, 2011. Mayor Pro Tem Roger Brossmer, who has expressed his support for those active in the military, also commented by saying, “I am extremely excited to have our City participate in the Blue Star Museums program, as it will serve as another way to honor those who serve our country and their families, as well.
