City Encourages Residents to Attend Public Hearings on Proposed Redistricting Options

Los Angeles County will be holding public hearings on Monday, July 11 and Wednesday, July 13, 2011 seeking public comment on the proposed redistricting options. The County of Los Angeles goes through the Redistricting Process every 10 years.  A Boundary Review Committee looks at each Supervisorial District within the County to ensure there is equitable population for each of the five Supervisorial Districts.  There is high risk that Downey may be removed from the current 4th Supervisorial District and the City of Downey urges its residents to attend the scheduled public hearings to express their position on this important issue. “I encourage our residents to attend these public hearings and make their voices heard, as this is an important issue that affects our entire community,” said Mayor Luis Marquez.

Free transportation will be provided for those wishing to attend the public hearings. The bus pick-up/drop-off location will be at the Columbia Memorial Space Center located at 12400 Columbia Way in Downey.  Bus will depart at 12:30pm and return at 4:30pm on both dates.  Public hearings will take place at the following location:
