Dial-A-Ride is a shared curb-to-curb transportation service provided to the City of Downey residents who are 65 years of age, or those with a physician-certified disability which prohibits the use of public transportation. The service operates within the City of Downey boundaries and travels to Kaiser Bellflower. Drivers will kindly assist you in and out of the vehicle with grocery bags or parcels, but cannot carry them to your door. The combined weight of your parcels cannot exceed 25 pounds. This includes the weight of a cart. You are limited to carry two bags per person.

Dial-A-Ride Service Hours:
- Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pm
- Saturday: 8:00am - 3:30pm
- Sunday: 7:30am - 1:00pm
Dial-A-Ride operates daily with the exception of the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
How do I join?
To become a rider you must complete an application, available in English or Spanish, provide a copy of proof of residency (ie. drivers license, utility bill, etc..) and mail a completed application to: 8150 Nance Street, Downey, CA 90241.

If you are under 65, don't forget to have your physician complete the certification section of the application. You can obtain an application at the Downey Depot, 8150 Nance Street or by calling (562) 904-7215. Once you submit your application, if you qualify, please allow 3-5 business days for processing.
How do I schedule a Ride, once I am approved?
No same day appointments are available, but exceptions do occur if cancellations have occurred and there is availability. To arrange an appointment, call (562) 904-7215, Monday - Friday between 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or Saturday from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm and provide
1) Your Name
2)Street address for both your location and destination.
3)Time and date of desired reservation.
We recommend you reserve your trip at least 24 hours in advance. Medical reservations can be made up to seven days in advance. Please note that ride availability varies and is not guaranteed.
How much time should I allow for my trip?
This service is shared and is not an uninterrupted direct point-to-point service. When scheduling your pick-up time, it is important to include a 40-minute ride time and 30 minute-pick-up "window". Allow for a minimum of 40 to 60 minutes one-way travel time.
How much does it cost?
Rides are 50 cents each way. Please have exact change. If you indicate on your application you may need a self-provided attendant, your attendant is free of charge.
