Lunch at the BJR Community & Senior Center

The Congregate Meal Program is administered by Human Services Association of Bell Gardens at the Barbara J. Riley Community & Senior Center. Lunch is served, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, at 11:45 AM. A nutritionally balanced hot lunch costs a suggested donation of $2.25 per person over 60+ and spouse (any age) or $4.50 for an aide accompanying a senior 60+ in the meal program. Reservations are required a day in advance by calling (562) 862-8800. Limited space for same day reservations based on first-come first-serve. No lunch is served on days the facility is closed.

Human Services Association (HSA)

The Home Delivered Meals program provides homebound seniors with a daily hot meal and a reassuring friendly visit. Human Services Association (HSA) drivers are trained to observe any danger signs and report them back to the agency. For many seniors, a home delivered meal increases their sense of independence and prevents premature institutionalization. Meal recipients also receive holiday gift baskets and other holiday treats.

Downey Meals on Wheels, Inc.

Downey Meals on Wheels is a volunteer non-profit community service providing home-delivered meals to those unable to prepare or obtain adequate nutritious food. Downey Meals on Wheels is dedicated to helping the disabled; helping the aged; helping the chronically or temporarily ill; providing nourishing food at a nominal cost during period of need; assuring a friendly interest and a helping hand so that people can remain self-sufficient in their own homes. The service is for all persons who qualify, regardless of income.

Service: Each delivery consists of a hot meal to be eaten at mid-day and a cold supper for evening. The menus are varied and the food is attractively served. Meals are delivered between the hours of 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM, five days a week, Monday through Friday, except holidays. The meals are delivered by trained volunteers who donate their time and operate their cars at their own expense.
