- Regular Registration: will begin on Monday, August 12th at 8:30am for in-person and online enrollments and at 12:00pm for over the phone registrations.
- Senior Excursion Registration: will begin on Monday, August 12th at 8:30am for in-person at the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center, for residents only. Non-resident and phone registrations will begin to be accepted starting at 12:00pm. Phone reservations for Excursions are only accept if the participant has a current waiver on file and is paying via credit card.

Registration is available online via the link above, by phone at (562) 904-7238, or in person at the Downey Parks and Recreation Administration Office, open Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5:30pm.
Downey Orbit
The Downey Orbit is published three times a year, middle of May, middle of August and middle of December. The Orbit is mailed to each Downey resident. The guide includes a City News section, library programs, park and recreation programs and information, summer camp offerings, listing of classes for preschool, youth and adults, excursions, Community & Senior Center activities, programs and services, McCaughan Gymnasium/Sports programs, aquatics, tennis, volunteer program, recreation facilities, Rio Hondo Golf Course and Columbia Memorial Space Center programs.
Online Registration!
The City of Downey, Parks and Recreation Department has transitioned into the ActiveNet portal, which is an easy-to-use online registration system. Activity registration can be completed and fees can be paid online by credit card (unless otherwise noted). You will need a valid e-mail address to register online. A convenience fee will apply to all online registrations.
Customers with an email address on their account, please follow these step-by-step instructions to access your account.
- Click on the Online Registration button
- Click on My Account
- Select forgotten? to set-up a new password
- Type in your email address
- Click Done
- Click Continue
- Check your email for your temporary password
- In ActiveNet type in your email address and temporary password
- Click Sign-in
- Re-type your temporary password in the current password box
- Enter your new password
- Re-enter password
- If desired, you may enter in ‘Security Information’
- Click Save
- Register and pay for classes
New Customers – If you have NOT registered with us since April 2013 then please follow these instructions:
- Go to Create Account
- Fill out all required fields denoted with an asterisk (*)
- Read and accept the “Terms of Use” by checking the box
- Select either Submit & Add Family Member or Submit
- Select continue
- Activate your account by clicking the link sent to your email.
- Register and pay for classes

Refund Policy
Class Withdrawals Prior to Class Start Date:
- 70% refund to payment card or via City check
- 100% refund to ActiveNet account for future use
No refunds will be issued after the start date of the class.
- Exceptions:
- Medical withdrawals- A prorated refund will be issued base on the amount of classes the participant attended prior to withdrawal.
- Special needs participant withdrawal
Participants can choose to transfer to another class rather than withdrawal. Participants will not be issued a refund for the difference of price if the original class was more expensive than the new class. Participants will be required to pay the difference if the new class is more expensive than the original class.
