The Downey Police Department is committed to providing prompt and professional investigative services through its Detective Bureau and Forensics Unit. The investigations unit consists of sworn detectives, a fully-staffed Forensics Unit, Property and Evidence personnel, and professional staff dedicated to investigate crimes that have already occurred and provide pro-active efforts to reduce criminal activity in our community. The department believes in working closely with fellow law enforcement agencies at the local, regional, and federal levels in a coordinated effort to provide a high level of service to the residents of Downey and those that visit our community.

The Investigators assigned to the Detective Bureau are cross-trained to handle a wide variety of crimes ranging from minor property crimes to major acts of violence. All personnel attend the most current training available to make them well-rounded investigators. Detectives coordinate the on-scene investigations of major crimes, assist in the initial investigation of crimes that require their expertise or are sensitive in nature, and conduct follow-up on all crime reports initiated by patrol personnel.
