Volunteers cleaning up open space Volunteers working together to Keep Downey Clean Since 1978

Join Keep Downey Beautiful's Saturday monthly cleanups (see schedule). Cleanups are held at different locations throughout the City. The attached schedule includes cleanup locations for the current year.

No prior registration is necessary. Volunteers need to arrive at 8:45 a.m. and report to the cleanup site (where a sign-in table will be set up, along with signage promoting the cleanup) where cleanup duties will be assigned to each volunteer. Anyone under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Keep Downey Beautiful Committee meets on a monthly basis to discuss best practices on improving their community environments.

Neighborhood Beautification Awards

April 21 - June 21

The Neighborhood Beautification Awards Program will recognize and reward City of Downey residents, property owners, and non-residential property whose individual properties reflect their community pride and have an aesthetically pleasing appearance. All winning nominees will receive a certificate of recognition and a sign will be placed in their yard with consent to signify the award. Winners will be notified in July.

Minimum Requirements:

One form per nominee must be received by the June 21 deadline date.
Anyone can nominate a property that is within Downey City limits.
The properties will be judged by a subcommittee of the Keep Downey Beautiful Committee.
All applicants must submit a current colored photograph of the nominated property to qualify.
The properties will be judged based on their curb appearance, taste, fitness, quality, harmony and conformance to code.
Properties in violation of building, municipal and/or zoning codes will be disqualified.
Property that has been part of a City project is not eligible for this competition.
