City of Downey, CA
Home MenuZoning Code & Map
The Zoning Code describes various types of zoning districts and land use classifications, land use regulations, development standards, and environmental performance standards. The Zoning Code’s purpose is to protect and promote public health, safety, and general welfare, and to implement the policies of the comprehensive General Plan.
The Zoning Code is a living document, and is updated periodically. The link below will take you directly to the Land Use section of the Zoning Code. From that page, there are links to each section of the Zoning Code. View the online Zoning Code.
Specific Plans
Certain areas of the City are not part of the traditional Zoning Code and instead part of a Specific Plan. Specific Plans contain detailed development standards, distribution of land uses, infrastructure requirements, and implementation measures for the development of a specific geographic area. This allows for greater flexibility and provides an opportunity to focus regulations and standards on the goals of a specific geographic area.
