The Downey Police Department's Traffic Unit has the continuing responsibility to keep vehicle traffic moving safely and efficiently along the network of roadways within the City. The Traffic Division's primary focus is to reduce the number and severity of traffic collisions within the City. This is accomplished through a combination of education and the enforcement of traffic laws, along with a high visibility of uniformed personnel.

The Traffic Unit is made up of the Traffic Sergeant, six Motorcycle Officers, one Traffic Detective, two Accident Investigators, and five Parking Enforcement Officers.
