This Section provides for the maintenance and repair of all City-owned buildings and facilities, including City Hall, Police Station, City Library, Downey Civic Theatre, Columbia Memorial Space Center, Downey Depot Transit Center, Downtown Parking Structure; Gary P. McCaughan Gymnasium, Barbara J. Riley Community & Seniors Center, Dance Studio, Housing Division Offices and related facilities at Apollo Park; and activity centers and restroom facilities at Crawford, Dennis the Menace, Discovery Sports Complex, Furman, Golden, Independence, Rio San Gabriel and Wilderness Parks.

The Facility Maintenance Section manages the City’s pro-active graffiti abatement program including the Graffiti Hotline and collaborating with the City’s Police Department in enforcement efforts.

Facility Maintenance staff performs skilled carpentry, drywall, painting, minor plumbing and electrical work in association with repair, remodeling, renovation and tenant improvement projects at all City facilities. Staff from this program also provides maintenance support services for all City Departments and setup for special events, including Kid’s Day, Summer Concert Series, Fishing Derby, Halloween Pumpkin Patch and Holiday Tree Lighting. Trained Facility Maintenance staff also conducts regular inspections of playground equipment for wear and vandalism, and replaces same as needed.
