The Fleet Maintenance Section Central Garage is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all City vehicles and equipment with the exception of the Fire Department. The City currently has fleet of 244 vehicles and about 60 pieces of miscellaneous rolling equipment such as trenching machines, pumps, rollers, and various motorized machinery. Our vehicle fleet includes passenger cars, light, medium and heavy duty trucks, trailers, transit buses, police patrol vehicles, and motorcycles. We also have a front end loader, skip loaders, backhoes, stump cutters, brush chipper, forklifts and golf carts. The City fleet also includes some highly specialized vehicles and equipment, such as a highway line striper, vactor-jetter sewer cleaning truck, aerial boom trucks, crane truck, mobile pavement crack sealer, Sand-Pro bunker rake, Show Mobile stage trailer, Police radar trailers, command post trailer and mobile command post vehicle.
The Fleet Maintenance Section maintains all DMV and CHP records, vehicle files, permits and inspections by regulatory authorities. Central garage also prepares specifications for new vehicles and equipment purchases, and manages equipment disposition for public auction. The Central Garage also maintains the City’s fuel dispensing facilities and emergency generators.
Central Garage technicians provide emergency road service and towing for all City vehicles both during and after normal office hours. The Central Garage proudly displays the ASE BLUE SEAL OF EXCELLENCE certification with 100% of our staff being certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence in one or more areas of expertise.
