Camp Downey
Camp Downey offers children an opportunity to make new friends, try new activities, and stay active. Parents will benefit knowing their children are in a safe, well-supervised environment that provides fun and adventure. Weekly bus excursion(s) is typically scheduled 1-2 times per week. Price includes bus excursion(s), supervision, materials and craft supplies. Campers must bring their own sack lunch each day.
Camp Downey hours are from 9AM – 4PM. Extended care (7AM – 9AM and 4PM – 6PM) is available for an additional fee, Camp T-shirts will also be available for an additional $10. Information is subject to change and will be updated as needed.
Camp Downey is offered in summer, winter break, spring break and some holiday/student free day camps in the fall and spring.

One Day Camps follow the Downey Unified School District’s school calendar and allows participants ages 6 – 12 years an opportunity to participate on a field trip during upcoming school holidays. Camp will begin at 9:00am, where participants will board the bus. The bus will leave by 9:30am, so please be on time as we cannot wait for late arrivals. Camp will return to Furman Park by 4:00pm, traffic permitting. Please send your child with a sack lunch.
Holiday camps include Spring Break and Thanksgiving Break. Campers participating in holiday camps will attend multiple field trips as well as on site arts, crafts, and games.

Specialty camps allow participants an opportunity to create or explore their passion and interests in special camp offerings. Campers experience hands-on activities, whether they are cooking, creating a comic book, or learning acting skills, your child will have fun while learning something new. Specialty camps are facilitated by outside instructors, who are passionate about each subject.
Performing Arts Camps
Performing Arts camps are hosted by the Kidz Talent Academy and located at the Barbara J. Riley Community and Senior Center, in the Downey Room. Throughout the week, campers will participate in a variety of games and activities as they work on a showcase performance throughout the week. Parents will be invited to this showcase on the final day of camp.

Junior Counselors from the summer 2024 session will be invited to participate in upcoming camp sessions such as: Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring break camps.

Camp Downey offers participants ages 13 – 15 years an opportunity to be a Junior Counselor at Camp Downey.
The Junior Counselor Program is geared to offer volunteers a memorable camp experience, while also helping them transition into the role they’ve admired for years—a true camp counselor. Junior Counselors will be assigned to a staff to assist them with tasks that include but are not limited to: prepping and cleaning after activities, assist with implementing activities/games/crafts, assisting campers, and acting as a positive role model for campers.
The Junior Counselor Program will take place at Camp Downey.
