All signs in the City of Downey shall comply with the standards and regulations that may be found in Chapter 6 of the Zoning Code. Below are some of the different types of signs and their applications. For information on associated fees, refer to the Planning Fee Schedule. An approved Business License is required before a Sign Permit can be issued.

Permanent Signs

Permanent Signs are subject to specific regulations relating, but not limited, to zoning, size, and location. Permanent Signs require a Sign Permit Application and a Building Permit, depending on the scope of work. To review sign-specific requirements, refer to DMC Section 9618.04.

Planned Sign Programs

Signs at commercial sites consisting of three or more tenants are also subject to standards and conditions contained in an approved Planned Sign Program for the site.

The following list includes some of the recently approved Planned Sign Programs within the City. If you are unable to find a copy of an approved sign program for a particular project, contact the Planning Division to obtain a copy. If you wish to modify an existing sign program or apply for a new Planned Sign Program, please contact the Planning Division at (562) 904-7154 for more information or visit Downey Municipal Code Section 9610.
